A french "Grande Ecole"

The Ecole des Mines de Douai is a member of the national association of Grandes Ecoles (“Conférence des Grandes Ecoles”).

What is a French Grande Ecole ?

Diplomas from the Grandes Ecoles are highly prized on the French and even international employment market (currently over 20,000 managers and nearly two-thirds of managing directors and chief executives of France’s 100 largest firms are graduated from the French Grandes Ecoles). High level courses as well as the social and professional elite status that the Grandes Ecoles bring to their graduates enable them to assume top positions and offer them a wide variety of career possibilities.

Their main characteristics are :

A highly selective admission process

Integrated and flexible educational programs

Close connections with Industry

European and international focus

Top-level research activities

Mobility and diverse background of the teaching staff

Active alumni networks

Most of the Grandes Ecoles belong to the “Conférence des Grandes Ecoles”, the French association dedicated to cooperation between members in such fields as international partnerships, advice to the government about the evolution of “classes préparatoires” (“preparation studies”) undergraduate programmes, and recognition of certain post-graduate courses run by the members.
